With reference to your letter No: 24/42, of the 11th

Hay last, in which you asked for a ruling as to the amount

The Auditor,

of salary to which the Assistant Colonial Secretary was en-

titled in respect of his employment as Private Secretary

after

to the Governor from the 15th October 1915 to the 8th

January last, I have the honour to inform you, consultation with the Colonial Office, that Mr. Fletcher was avparently entitled to receive only half of the pay of the post of Private Secretary for the whole of the period referred

to.

2. I have therefore to request that you will place

the above view before the Colonial Government, and that you

will inform mê, in due course, whether the amount overpaid

has been recovered.
